Salpassa ESPAÑA

The Salpassa collective was born in 1986 with the firm intention of recovering, investigating and spreading the popular folklore of the Valencian counties. Born in the town of El Campello (L'Alacantí).
The "Salpassa" was a long-established custom, which consisted of a ritual to expel the evil spirits from the houses. A small table with water, salt and eggs was put on the doors of the houses (the number of them varied according to the family). These products were blessed by the priest, who was followed by altar boys singing the so-called salpassa songs and making a lot of noise wherever they went.
From its beginnings it was characterized by knowing the traditional clothing of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, collaborating with prestigious costumers; the ethnomusicologist Fermin Pardo, besides participating in Tocant a Alacant, has exerted a clear influence on the group.
Within his facet of diffusion he has made shows, where he combines clothing, theatrical performances and dances in a coherent way, always trying to maintain an anthropological vision.
Another highlight of Salpassa is the promotion of street dances on October 9, where about 250 people from the town participate, dancing a ritual dance L'Alacantí. The participation of the people of the town in the dances is a very good example of renewal of popular dance, of the continuity of ours at the hands of the people, to whom all this legacy really belongs. For these dances they count on the collaboration of the Colla de Dolçainers and Tabaleters, Larraix, of the Campello.
In 1999, El So dels Barrejats was born, a rondalla with which, since its inception, Salpassa has been working. The So dels Barrejats is a cultural association and the name clearly refers to the origin of its members, a mixture of musicians from different towns in Alicante (Almoradí, Benejúzar, Orihuela, Alicante, Sella, El Campello and Benimantell).
The year 2010 published Al so del So, a perfect combination of restored themes that give us a very good view of the folklore of the regions of Alicante. Both groups work for the recovery and dissemination of folklore, and the passion for these issues is born this relationship. The work of traditional music and dance starts from a review of mimetic dance, school dance or choreography at different times. The shows and exhibitions that have made the last years their tangible samples of the work that unites them.
